Role Overview
GROOVY is building full control over its jersey fabric supply chain. We are looking for a Jersey R&D & Supply Chain Manager who can manage the process end-to-end — from yarn sourcing to knitting, dyeing, finishing, and final fabric approval.
This role is responsible for fabric quality, consistency, cost control, and development of new jersey materials aligned with GROOVY’s product roadmap.
This is a hands-on, execution-driven role requiring strong on-ground coordination with mills, knitters, and dye houses.
Key Responsibilities
1. Yarn Sourcing & Procurement
- Source and evaluate yarn suppliers (cotton, blended, recycled, specialty yarns).
- Manage yarn specifications: count, ply, twist, fiber composition.
- Negotiate pricing, MOQs, and lead times.
- Plan yarn procurement aligned with production calendars.
2. Knitting Process Management
- Coordinate with knitting units for jersey fabrics (single jersey, rib, interlock, pique, etc.).
- Ensure knitting parameters meet required GSM, structure, and hand-feel.
- Monitor knitting quality issues such as:
- GSM variation
- Barre / striping
- Needle marks
- Fabric defects
- Maintain knitting SOPs and quality standards.
3. Dyeing & Fabric Processing
- Coordinate dyeing and finishing processes with dye houses.
- Manage shade development, lab dips, and bulk approvals.
- Ensure color consistency across batches.
- Oversee finishing parameters affecting shrinkage, pilling, and hand-feel.
4. Fabric R&D & Development
- Develop new jersey fabric qualities for GROOVY’s product lines.
- Experiment with:
- Different yarn blends
- GSM variations
- Finishing techniques
- Maintain a fabric library with specs, performance notes, and costing.
5. Shrinkage, Testing & Quality Control
- Monitor fabric shrinkage (lengthwise & widthwise).
- Ensure shrinkage and spirality remain within acceptable tolerances.
- Coordinate fabric testing (GSM, pilling, color fastness, shrinkage).
- Approve finished fabric before cutting.
6. Costing & Supply Chain Planning
- Prepare fabric costing sheets including yarn, knitting, dyeing, finishing, and wastage.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality.
- Plan supply chain timelines to support product drops and replenishment cycles.
7. Vendor Management & Coordination
- Build and maintain relationships with:
- Yarn suppliers
- Knitting units
- Dye houses
- Evaluate vendor performance on quality, cost, and delivery.
- Resolve supply chain issues proactively to avoid production delays.
Collaboration
- Work closely with:
- Founders & product team on fabric strategy
- Production & QC teams for bulk approvals
- Merchandising for production planning
- Act as the fabric authority for jersey products.
Requirements
- 4–8+ years experience in jersey fabric development or textile supply chain.
- Strong knowledge of:
- Yarn types and counts
- Knitting processes
- Dyeing and finishing for jersey fabrics
- Experience working with mills, knitters, and dye houses.
- Strong costing and procurement skills.
- Ability to manage multiple vendors and timelines independently.
Preferred (Strong Advantage)
- Experience with export-oriented textile mills.
- Understanding of fabric performance for fashion vs everyday wear.
- Familiarity with sustainability-focused yarns and processes.
